Springfield School District has an anticipated opening for a full time Groundskeeper to join our Facilities Department. This position reports to the Grounds Foreman, is a 12 month position, 7am-3:30pm, with benefits, including pension. The Groundskeeper is responsible for the District's grounds maintenance and helps to establish a positive school disctrict environment and appearance. This individual provides extremely important support services to adminstrators and other staff members to ensure the campuses are clean, attractive, and safe. This service directly benefits students by ensuring that the District is providing a school setting that is safe, comfortable, and asethetically appealing and one in which the students are proud to attend.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the school district's grounds and outdoor spaces throughout the entire year.
- Cleans and preserves designated spaces and equipment related to grounds maintenance.
- Restocks disposable items and provides head groudskeeper with inventory ususage data.
- Assists visitors to the facilities politely and professionally.
- Provides assistance to other maintenance and custodial personnel as directed.
- Assists in maintaining building and grounds, including but not limited to mowing, trimming, pruning, tree and limb removal, mulching, snow removal, etc.
- Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Property Services Manager.
- Preparation of Athletic Fields, outdoor facilities for athletics, and other school based or community functions.
- Works collaboratively and effectively with other District administrative and support staff.
- Ability/experience operating equipment such as zero turn lawn mowers, backhoe, plow trucks, lifts, etc.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED. Formal trade training preferred.
- Work experience that demonstrates the aptitude and ability to perform the essential job functions.
- Abilility to read and interpret documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Valid drivers license with good driving record
- Ability to pass a District written and physical test.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of, and in compliance with, all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Must have (within one year) or obtain, all mandatory clearances.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather environments for extended periods.
